Birch Wood Etching - Autumn Leaves Edition

I love driving through the birch forests at the edges of the mountains of the Northwest. They also make me think of Russia and I wonder if maybe Baba Yaga's hut is somewhere just out of frame, waiting on its chicken legs. In this version of the print, I've employed the chine collé technique of using thinner cut paper to add color and texture to the larger print by using the press to collage and print on top of it simultaneously. I use a teeny tiny leaf shaped punch to make the tiny leaves and then use the paper that I've punched them out of on the bottom to simulate the fallen leaves. Each one is unique (well, even more than a regular hand printed etching) as the placement of the leaves is random, just as in nature. The image size is 9" x 12" (23 cm x 30 cm) on acid-free BFK Rives cotton rag paper that is 11" x 15" (28 cm x 38 cm).
