Borb Etching

This chubby little creature is technically a European robin, all puffed up from the cold and slightly exaggerated. But to me, it is a borb: a bird that's in the shape of an orb. As an American, I am deeply jealous of the Europeans for some of their wildlife (and for a host of other reasons both longstanding and recent) and their robin redbreasts are among those envied creatures. They are so much tinier and fluffier than our big American robin thrushes are. Though I do my best to make all my prints in a series or edition as uniform as I can, hand printed etchings are always a bit unique as they're human made. This particular etching is even more unique from print to print as I use two layers of hand torn colored paper to give the round belly of the borb its coloring in a technique called chine collé. The image size is approximately 4" in diameter on acid-free BFK Rives cotton rag paper that is 6" x 6" (20 cm x 20 cm).
