I love the mysterious faces of barn owls and have been fascinated with them ever since I heard the tale of Blodeuwedd in my big book of Welsh fairy stories as a child. She was a woman created from flowers to be the bride of a prince but, because she had no real human heart, she was false and betrayed her husband. A wizard chased her to the edge of a cliff where she flung herself off and was transformed into the beautiful flower faced owl. To keep a bit of that mystery and magical feel in this image, I hand tint it with some additional thin layers of pigment in the background to feel like a softly glowing night. Each image is one of a kind. The image size is 6" x 6" (15 cm x 15 cm) on acid-free BFK Rives cotton rag paper that is 8" x 8" (20 cm x 20 cm).
