Hand pulled etching of a peaceful little octopus, just dreaming away in the ocean. I made this in a looser sketchy style after spending hours laboring on the giant Pacific octopus print since I wanted to further explore the feeling of twisty undulation in the limbs and the contrast between the different types of skin on the body. A spit bite overlay gave it the appropriately watery feeling and masking out the suckers really makes them pop white in the print. I printed this version in sepia both to give it an old-timey maritime map feeling and also because originally sepia ink was made from cephalopod ink. The kind I use today is not, so no actual cuttlefish, squid or octopods were harmed in the making of this image. The image size is 6" x 6" (15 cm x 15 cm) on acid-free BFK Rives cotton rag paper that is 8" x 8" (20 cm x 20 cm).
