These redbud leaves were done as part of a Valentine's day card project for the art center where I print. I am not generally a fan of the romantic image, but I liked that these had a nice natural heart shape to them and were much less off-putting than my original impulse as someone who is into scientific illustration which was to go entirely literal and do a series of anatomical hearts, perhaps grouped by size. That could still happen in the future. The chine collé technique of using cut paper to add color and texture via the press is on display here in the red leaves, which, in this special version, have bits of gold ink marbled through them for a bit of glamour. It's a glamour tree, why not, trees can be fancy too. The image size is 8" x 6" (18 cm x 23 cm) on acid-free BFK Rives cotton rag paper that is 10" x 8" (23 cm x 28 cm).
